How Minds Work

A Cognitive Theory of Everything

Stan's Logo

You clicked on Stan Franklin’s personal logo. This circular design is one of thousands of different such symbols that adorn the eaves of the tile roofs of temples and shrines in Japan. The ceramic tiles containing them are variously called roof-end tiles, ridge-end tiles or eave-end tiles.

Viewing this logo often calls to mind one or more of:

  • The Yin-Yang symbol (T’ai Chi Tu)
  • A stylized human brain
  • An S (for Stan) turned on its side
  • A Superman symbol turned sideways. (Stan has been accused of unsuccessfully attempting to play Superman on occasion.)
